The garden:
This beautiful Georgian-style house in Newent, Gloucestershire exuded rural sophistication. The garden, however - at the front of the property and carved by the driveway - felt dull.

A quintessential Cotswolds garden design

The brief:

We were briefed by the clients, to establish the garden as a special place that would enhance the house and separate the driveway.

As keen gardeners themselves with a passion for plants, the clients wanted to make the most of the large borders. They also wanted to create a path around the garden where they could walk the dogs or simply wander.

The garden is quite a love… I go and refresh myself every now and then, and then come back to Solitary Coolness.

The design:

The circular garden we designed to create distinct areas so each space had its own mood, with different colours and styles of planting.

We restored the existing, tired water feature and designed a spot for a statement sculpture of a horse (for the clients, who are horse lovers) as a focal point to draw the eye into the garden.

This regal property deserved to be admired. So, at the far side of the garden, we constructed a place to sit and view the property from a different aspect.
