To soften the angular shape of the garden, we introduced a flowing, curved layout that creates a more natural and relaxed feel. A gently winding pathway leads through the space, connecting different areas while adding movement and interest.
A key focus was the view from the kitchen window. We positioned a central water feature to act as a focal point, offering both visual interest and the gentle sound of water when the doors are open. This feature also anchors the seating area, creating a shared point of focus across the garden.
At one end, a bespoke hardwood pergola provides a shaded seating area, designed with open slats to create dappled light and a soft interplay of shadow. In contrast, a sunnier seating space sits closer to the house, allowing the clients to choose where to spend time depending on the conditions.
Planting plays an important role in shaping the space, with pleach trees used to provide light screening and seasonal interest. The overall palette is relaxed and natural, complementing the gentle curves and creating a sense of ease throughout.

The finished garden is a far cry from the space the clients once avoided. It now offers a balance of sun and shade, structure and softness – a place that draws you outside rather than keeping you indoors.
From the kitchen window to the shaded pergola, every element has been designed to enhance daily life, creating a courtyard that feels both uplifting and restorative.
